The Truth About Fat Loss

There are so many misconceptions out there about fat loss. Unfortunately for all the ‘joe plumbers’ out there, it seems like everyday a new weight loss gimmick pops up promising instant results, a trim waist line, and 6 pack abs.

As a Phd researcher in nutrition I can tell you that no weight loss gimmick will deliver you the fat loss results that you desire. What is really ironic is that what works for losing weight now, was the same thing that worked 100 years ago.

It makes sense though right? Our genome hasn’t changed in 100 years so why would what works for weight loss change? It hasn’t. Sure 100 years ago there were diet gimmicks just like now (except back then they were more dangerous - tape worms anyone?).

Now, I’m not saying that you can’t lose weight fast. No, no that isn’t the case. But I cringe everyday when I see the ads online that say “I lose 20lbs in 2 weeks with no diet and no exercise. Click here to find out how.” That’s garbage. Let me tell you this. You CAN lose weight fast. You can lose 20lbs in 4 weeks if you dedicated yourself to being perfect with your diet and training really hard.

I once heard a famous obesity researcher say “Losing weight isn’t hard. There is no mystery there. What is really hard is keeping the weight off.” So think about that next time you go on a fat loss diet. You can take the weight off a hundred different ways. But will you be able to keep it off?
